Tashkent State Technical University was initially established in 1920 as a technical faculty under Turkestan State University. Later, in 1929, the Central Asian Cotton Irrigation Polytechnic Institute was established on the basis of the technical faculty of Turkestan State University. In 1933, it was transformed into the Central Asian Industrial Institute, in 1949 into the Central Asian Polytechnic Institute, and in 1961 into the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute. In 1991, the Tashkent State Technical University was established on the basis of the Tashkent Polytechnic Institute and the Tashkent Machine-Building Institute. In 1991, in honor of the 1000th anniversary of the birth of Abu Rayhan Beruni, he was named Abu Rayhan Beruni. In order to perpetuate the memory of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Abduganievich Karimov, in 2017, the Tashkent State Technical University was named after Islam Karimov. The university has 5 faculties and 53 departments. The educational process at the university is carried out in the bachelor's degree in full-time, part-time, and evening forms of study, and in the master's degree in full-time form. The educational process begins annually in September and is organized on the basis of a credit-modular system. Tashkent State Technical University entered the TOP-1000 universities of the world according to the results of the international rating agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and ranked in the TOP 901-950 rankings. The Tashkent State Technical University has 13 student dormitories with a capacity of 5202, and student accommodation at the university is fully digitized. By implementing online accommodation in student dormitories, all students have the opportunity to stay in student dormitories from their homes. All conditions for students have been created in the student dormitories.
