The National Institute of Art and Design named after Kamoliddin Behzod was established on the basis of the Faculty of Art opened at the Tashkent Institute of Theater and Fine Arts in 1954, in accordance with the Decree of the first President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov “On the Establishment of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan” dated January 23, 1997 and the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 131 dated March 11, 1997. The era itself dictated that the institute be established not only on the basis of the European direction of world art, but also on the basis of the assimilation of the rich heritage of the East in the full sense of the word.
